How to make a Long-Distance relationship work

Are you currently in a long-distance relationship or have maybe found someone that lives miles away from you and now you are worried that it might not work out? Don’t be scared at all. I know long-distance relationships can get lonely sometimes and of course, it’s not easy. But there are some good things that come with it. Feeling each other’s touch after not being able to see each other for months is the best feeling ever.

First of all, I’ve been with my boyfriend for around 2 1/2 years and can you believe that I haven’t seen him in person for 2 years? Last time I saw him was in 2017 and now It’s 2019! Isn’t that insane?! We are surviving even though it’s been such a long time since we’ve seen each other and I am sure that you and your other half can too. Now let me give you a few tips on how to make a long-distance relationship work.

Trust each other

This one is very important. You have to trust each other before you can even have a long-distance relationship. You have to trust that he/she won’t do anything to hurt you behind your back and that he only loves YOU. You have to be able to not worry when your boyfriend or girlfriend is out with their friends. If there is something that is worrying you then ALWAYS tell them.

Talk and be honest

If there is something that’s upsetting you then be honest and talk with them about it. I am sure that they would love to hear about how you are feeling and help you as much as they can. Always be open and honest with each other. Just remember that he/she will always be there for you, no matter what it is that you have on your mind just tell them.

Communicate regularly

Try to talk every day if you can. I talk with my boyfriend every day on facetime, and I am always excited to talk with him. Tell your other half how your day went and greet each other “good morning” and “good night” every day, this is something we always do so this is a must. By this, you are telling him/her that you are thinking about them in the morning before starting your day and that you want to end your day off by telling them good night.

Do things together

You can play games together, my boyfriend and I are playing a game called Pubg which both of us are obsessed with. We even play with his friends too and it’s so much fun! You can even take a walk outside while talking together or find a game that both of you like to play.

Know each other’s schedules

It’ll be easier to know when to call him/her when you know his/hers schedule. You wouldn’t want to disturb him/her while they are doing something important right? My boyfriend is a photographer, so he owns his own studio, I can basically call him whenever I want but of course, he can’t talk to me for hours when he is working. He’ll normally call me around 5 pm (CET) and then we’ll talk for a few hours until he has to sleep. There are a couple of days where he is off to a wedding or a birthday celebration where I obviously can’t call him and disturb his work, but he has always been good at telling me when he has a function he has to attend to. This is also very important if both of you are living in different time zones.

Send each other gifts

This is such a cute thing to do. Since you can’t see each other all the time, a small gift can mean so much. It does not have to be anything big. It can be anything like a teddy bear, a beautiful necklace or even a perfume. This would mean so much to your boyfriend/girlfriend that you have put your thought into sending them something. You can send your other half a gift on their birthday, at Christmas or on valentines day so that she/he knows that you are thinking about them.

Visit each other if you can

This is the best thing ever! After waiting for so long and finally being able to see each other is the best feeling you’ll ever experience! So whenever you are able to visit each other, do it and enjoy the time you are with them!
